Ron Caruthers

Ron Caruthers is the nation’s leading expert on getting into and paying for colleges-as well as helping students choose their careers and command top money in their fields. He is also famous for helping families that didn’t save enough for college get on track for the retirement.

He was born and raised in Santa Monica, California—right above ‘Baywatch’ beach. In fact, he was a Los Angeles County (Baywatch) lifeguard for two summers.

Ron graduated from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, CA in 1985. He graduated with top honors as the sole valedictorian of his class, being ranked number 1 out of 419 students. However, due to poor career planning and lack of finances, he did not immediately go on to college. In fact, 9 years later, that led to him researching the financial aid system, as well as taking a hard look into just how poorly most students were prepared for college and a career.

In 1995, Ron Caruthers launched his college planning company in Vista, CA. Since then, he has worked with over 1125 families helping them attain their college dreams. For the Class of 2005, he personally worked with 139 families.

Ron says:

“You’d be shocked how many families just got busy with day to day living and haven’t saved enough for college. And, beyond that, a lot of the time they’re getting very minimal help from their guidance counselors, if any at all. So we work to really help those kids figure out what they want to do for the rest of their lives, as well as helping the parents figure out how to get the most amount of aid.”

“Additionally, I don’t feel like I’ve done my job unless we’ve left that family in better financial shape than we’ve found them—you know, helping the parents figure out how to pay for their share of college (which we’ve greatly reduced) but also helping them get their houses paid off early and getting on track for retirement. Also, we save our clients an average of $2,400 in taxes as well, so that doesn’t hurt either.”

Ron Caruthers is an instructor at Palomar and Mira Costa Colleges in San Diego, California, and a regular on KUSI in San Diego’s morning news program. He is also the author of several books on college planning.

He is also a co-author of a book with marketing expert Dan Kennedy called ‘Wealth Attraction Secrets for Entrepreneurs’ that was released in January 2006. He is highly sought after as a speaker for private groups, and teaches classes on the college process regularly throughout Southern California.

He lives in Carlsbad, California with his wife, Kathryn, and his three children Jessika, Brennan and Lexi.
